FAQ: Why does my N6705 measure 20 V when set to Voltage Measure with nothing connected?

Remember that the N6705 is really a power supply, and the internal measurement circuits are measuring whatever voltage appears at the output terminals. The input impedance of the N6781A/82A/84A modules is around 2000 pF. When the output is turned on in Voltage Measure mode, this input capacitor will continuously charge to around 400 micro-Joules, and the meter will measure either +/-20.4 V.
